Donald “Don” W. Sligar, age 85, passed away Apr. 16, 2020 at Wesley Towers, Hester Care, Hutchinson, KS. He was born on Jan. 21, 1935 at Howard, KS, the son of Howard W. and Valeria (Fry) Sligar. Don was a 1954 graduate of St. John High School and a self-employed businessman, to include, Texaco Service Station, Sonic Drive-In, Wegele Mower store and Cattleman. He was a US Navy Veteran and former commander of the VFW at Garden City, KS. On Dec. 21, 1958, he married Fonnie Dee Fox at Garden Grove, CA, she survives of Hutchinson. Don was a resident of Hutchinson, KS, since 2007, coming from Garden City, KS. Other survivors include a daughter, Carla Burroughs (Charles), Garden City, KS; 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Brad Sligar.
Private military graveside services were held at the Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John, KS on April 18, 2020, with Pastor Bob Phipps presiding. A celebration of life service will take place at a later date. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church at 5th and Main in Hutchinson, KS, in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS 67576.
**Memorial service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the First Baptist Church, St. John with Roland Broeder presiding.
