Gordon Scott Austin, 61, of Macksville, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Gordon was born Feb. 16th, 1964 in Ojui, CA. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose sarcasm and humor touched the lives of all who knew him. Gordon was married to Audrey Bernadette (Cole) Austin in 1988. Together, they raised an extraordinary family that will forever carry his memory. He is survived by his sons, Byron Austin and Ava Austin of Hutchinson, KS, Zachary Austin of Macksville, KS, and Taylor Austin and Annika Smith of Larned, KS; and his daughter, Emma Rudy and Caleb Rudy of Hays, KS. He is also survived by his brother, Terry Austin and Nancy Austin of Plainville, KS, sister, Marla Austin of Hays, KS, and many nieces and nephews.. Gordon also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Charlotte Avoye Austin, Myles Scott Austin (Byron), and Anora Maeve Austin, Sage Wayne Austin (Taylor.) He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Elouise Austin (Hillegeist) and Jackie Eugene Austin, as well as his grandparents, Inah Hillegist and Lonzo Hillegist of Zurich, KS, and Roe Austin and Lulu Austin of Sim, IL. Gordon was also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Austin, Gary Austin, and Ricky Austin. Gordon’s passion for music was evident throughout his life, as he played drums in multiple bands in Rooks County and Stafford County. Over the years, Gordon held several diverse careers, working as a roughneck, a cosmetologist, a caregiver at Res-Care, and as an employee at Cross Manufacturing. Most recently, Gordon worked as a cook at Macksville Schools, where he enjoyed spending extra time with his granddaughter while getting to know all the students. However, Gordon’s greatest joy came when he had the privilege of being a stay-at-home dad. He treasured the time spent with his children, and his family was the center of his world. Whether at work or at home, Gordon’s love, selflessness, and dedication to his family remained his greatest achievement. A memorial service will be on Friday, March 14, 2025, 1:00 P.M. at the Minnis Chapel, 526 E. 4th Ave., P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS 67576. A private inurnment service will take place in Stockton, Kansas on Monday. Please make memorial checks payable to: Gordon Austin Grandchildren Education Fund.
