Lawrence E. Gillespie, age 76 passed away on Sept. 28, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City, MO. He was born on Dec. 29, 1946 at Oswego, KS., the son of Otto Dayle and Ruth Marie (Richardson) Gillespie, Sr. On Aug. 18, 1995 he married Jennifer (Ditch) at Stafford, KS., she survives of the home. Lawrence was the long-time owner of L J and J Automotive in St. John, KS. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Sunflower Rod and Custom Association, IOOF Lodge, US Navy Veteran and past member of the St. John City Zoning Board. Other survivors include 6 sons, Jerry Lee (Unnur) Gillespie, Iceland, Jeff (Beth) Gillespie, Hitchcock, TX., Todd Gillespie, St. John, KS., Brett Younie, Wichita, KS., Scott (Tonya) Younie, Pratt, KS., Kevin (Summer)Younie, Pratt, KS; 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Dayle Gillespie, Jr. Visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 6, 2023 from 1-7PM with family present from 5-7PM at Minnis Chapel, St. John, KS. A memorial service with military honors will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023 at Minnis Chapel, St. John with Pastor Jeff Lowther presiding. Memorials may be given to Sunflower Rod and Custom Association, Great Bend, KS., or Leisure Homestead, Stafford, KS., in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS 67576.
