Orvis Ray “Nub” Miller, age 88, passed away on Sept. 9, 2020 at The Ranch House, Garden City, KS. He was born on Jan. 28, 1932 at Skiatook, OK. He was the son of William and Helen Miller. Although Nub was a skilled welder and carpenter, he spent the majority of his life as a horse trainer, cowboy and horseshoer. He shod his first horse at 14 and his last at the age of 82 years young. He was a resident of St. John from 1994-2019 and proudly served in the Korean Conflict with the US Army. On Feb. 19, 1955 he married Audrey Kay (Apperson), she passed away in 2015. Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Sherwood (Fred), Holly, CO; three sons, Marvin Miller, St. John, KS, Mitch Miller (Wendy), Mineral Wells, TX, Mark Miller (Denise), Cimarron, KS; a brother, Jed C. Miller, Haskell, OK; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 4-7 PM on Monday, Sept. 14, 2020 at Minnis Chapel, 526 E. 4th Ave., St. John, KS. A private family interment will take place at a later time. Memorials may be given to the St. John Meals on Wheels in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS 67576.
