Steven Michael Mace, age 71, passed away Thursday 26 May 2018 at French Hospital Medical Center, San Luis Obispo, CA. He was born 9 September 1946 in Liberal, KS to Lloyd E. Mace and Clara M. Light. He served this country as a United States Marine trained as a paratrooper, a diver and a radio operator. Corporal Mace deployed to the Republic of Vietnam in 1966 and 1967, participating in numerous combat patrols with the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division. His combat experience in The Corps molded many of his standards of loyalty and dedication. While paying his own way through The California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA, he worked as a crab fisherman, farm hand, and electronic technician. His life was full of adventure and world wide experience. Steve had seen life and death first hand, yet maintained his love for family, his Marine Corps brothers in arms and independence. He is survived by his daughter Tobi Mace, grand-daughter Katarina Benner, brother Robert L. Mace, sister Suzanne M. Tresko and numerous cousins. Family and friends are invited to the Minnis Chapel, 526 E 4th Ave, St John, KS between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday 3 June 2018. Graveside service will be the same day at 3 p.m. in the Mace Family Plot, Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John, KS.
